"The Wolverine" faces his greatest threat yet in the just-released trailer for the new flick: His own mortality.
Though Hugh Jackman's X-Men character is known for his razor sharp claws and inability to die, apparently that all changes in the upcoming movie.
The first trailer was released this morning, giving some insight into the plot for the anticipated comic book adaptation.
While the clawed one's last outing -- the critically panned "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" -- was a prequel, it appears this one takes place after the events of "X-Men: The Last Stand," as Logan is seen mourning the death of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen).
A Japanese soldier who Wolverine saved during World War II tracks Logan down many years later and offers to make him mortal ... an offer the warrior may actually accept.
In the trailer we see the comic character get wounded as he says "I'm not healing like before." Uh oh!
We also get glimpses of Silver Samurai, ninja Yukio (Rila Fukushima) and the beautiful-but-deadly Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova).
With its Japanese setting, more grounded characters and a grittier tone, the movie looks very different from "Origins" ... which can't be a bad thing.
Does the first trailer have you excited about the flick? "The Wolverine" opens July 26.
