The world would be boring if everyone thought the same way. I am a free thinker even though it can make me come off looking crazy/stupid. I just dont believe in cookie cutter thoughts. A lot of people are afraid to share their actual feelings or ideas. Quoting my favorite rapper Joe Budden:

"Niggas cant speak they mind what the fuck they got  mouth for?"

After this article you will either agree or shake your head in disbelief.

I rated J Cole's album "Born Sinner" a 7 out of 10. Last time I checked that isnt a bad rating. The magazine "XXL" rated it a L according to my source converts to a 7 on the XXL grading scale. Now mind yall, I had this album preordered on iTunes and I was excited for its release. I only listened to a few songs that had leaked and I liked them. Plus his single with Miguel is pretty catchy as well. I listened to it the night it came out and after a first listen I was touched or blown away by any song. I started thinking well maybe I didnt listen hard enough so I went ahead and listened to it again. Nope, I still had the same train of thought.


The album is a good album, but  people  today think if I say something isnt "great" or a "classic" they take it as it is not good. Born Sinner is an improvement from Cole's debut album. I think Cole had better singles than last time and his promotion was great with the youtube series he had going.  In my facebook group "Hiphop the Minority" I am a lone wolf with this opinion. Now as I said earlier in this piece that XXL rated it a L so it may not be a popular opinion but, it isnt too far fetched for a major company to put that out to the public.

[Article] I Am Not A Role Model - @JWill214

"I am not a role model", once said by NBA Hall of Fame player Charles Barkley. That is one of the most controversial, but heartfelt statements I have ever heard. People have a tendency to mistake high wages for high moral responsibility. Just because you get paid a lot of money does not automatically make you the voice of the people.

Hip Hop is the perfect example of that quote. The biggest example we can use is the rapper Chief Keef. Chief Keef is a young rapper from the violent streets of Chicago, whose content glorifies gangbanging and street violence. Now some would say "what do you expect from a young kid out of the ghetto", while others would say "since he is in the public eye he needs to straighten up". What many don't seem to realize is thats what we have parents/ family members for.

Music (especially hip hop) has been the scapegoat for bad parenting for decades. I know sometimes a parent can try their best and the kid still messes up, but at the end of the day it's all about having a "moral compass". If you don't teach your kids morals and values at a young age, more than likely they wont acquire these attributes later in life unless from a traumatic experience. These artists' get paid to make hit records, not to guide your children through life. As much as I fear that the next generation will be the end of the world I dont blame the music, I blame the incompetent parents and misguided youth. To all the parents who read this please take responsibility, because at the end of the day music is entertainment, not a guideline to life. Your voice should hold more weight in your childs life than the ones they hear in their headphones.

[Article] Hip Hop Progression - @JWILL214

The 1990's is the golden era of hip hop, or to some just another decade. For the most part hip hop fans and critics see the 1990's as the measuring stick for the culture. The West was taking over in the early 90's while  New York was still proving why they are the mecca of hip hop. The South on the other hand was starting to get taken seriously slowly, but surely. Now back to present time.

    Although the game has changed a lot since the 90's the one thing you can say is that lyricism and content has come back to the mainstream. Large part due to J Cole and Kendrick Lamar the industry has been a little more tolerated by the Hip Hop heads. Kendrick has set the standard for years to come with his "Section 80" that was strong enough to be a debut album. GKMC showed his consistency and had arguably one of the best songs of all time in "Tired of Running/Dying of Thirst". 

On the other side of the US J Cole has a few "classic" mixtapes under his belt, including his 2nd mixtape "The Warmup" one of the songs helped him get signed to Jay z's Roc Nation. His second album "Born Sinner" is highly anticipated and will be dropping this month same day as Kanye West. 

Now this next sentence is going to ruffle a couple of old school hip hop fans feathers. Drake also has helped hip hop a lot in the last couple of years, he just isnt the same as a Cole or Kendrick. With his intriguing background and him still staying true to himself, while at the same time maintaining chart topping records. "His singy songy" flow has been mimicked so much in the last 4 to 5 years. Now i know what some of the readers are thinking, what does this have to do with the "Golden Era"? Emcees from different states/countries, different backgrounds, and yet all have the same goal to be number one and represent their culture as best as they can. 

Safe to say our culture is in great hands
