J. Cole releases a new song today featuring an unexpected collaboration that will make ’90s R&B fans very happy. The Roc Nation rapper dropped the TLC-assisted ‘Crooked Smile,’ from his upcoming ‘Born Sinner’ album.
In the soulful number, Cole raps about self-love and uplifting yourself. “They tell me I should fix my grill ’cause I got money now…I keep my twisted grill, just to show the kid’s it’s real,” J raps. The song is sonically and thematically reminiscent of early Kanye West on songs like ‘All Falls Down.’
‘Crooked Smile’ will appear on ‘Born Sinner,’ Cole’s sophomore album, which is due June 18.
