HOUSTON — A fire in the basement of a high-rise downtown Houston building resulted in injuries to five CenterPoint Energy employees.
It happened in an electrical vault at the Southwestern Bell building in the 1100 block of Capitol around 10 a.m.
The workers were hit with 480 volts of electricity, according to an HFD spokesperson.
The injured workers were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center with significant electrical burn injuries. They are all in critical condition, according to HFD.
San Jacinto, Capitol and Texas streets will remain closed until the area is cleared.
The fire left minimal damage to the building and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
